The stash (Accuracy 10 m Elevation 317 m) is hidden in a 2.2 litre rectangular translucent plastic container within moderately dense scrub, about 100 m north-west of the car park (S 42°27.739' E 173°16.571' Elevation 325 m). See the hints for more detail.
To get there, you have two options: One, drive about 5 km south from Kaikoura on State Highway 1, now turn west and drive along State Highway 70 for about 35 km and park just before the Conway River bridge on the right; Two, from State Highway 7 (AKA The Lewis Pass), turn north onto State Highway 70 (S 42°42.984' E 172°55.038' Elevation 209 m), continue for about 95 km and park at the far end of the Conway River bridge on the left.
State Highway 70 is fully sealed (it is incorrectly indicated as graveled on most maps) and is a nice scenic route to or from Kaikoura to Hanmner Springs (where there are great geothermal baths) or Christchurch, the Conway River george is quite pleasant too (see the photos below).
