South Perth ROX Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

Lyn Pat and Nathan: Sorry to all those that are affected by archiving the cache but the local council has requested that it be removed. We think that we placed it in the logical place and we chose this place because it was reachable while on the boardwalk although some people did walk to the small area nearby we have never noted any damage. We did monitor the cache and we felt that there was no adverse effects on the nearby Flora.
Unfortunatly we can be as resposible as we like but the decision isnt alway ours. The council has made the decision and we will do as requested. We would love to be able to modify the cache in a manner that would encourage people to visit the boardwalk and also meet the council standards that they would like. If they (the council) feel they would like to engage in some sort of Dialog with us we would encourage it to do so as together we can find a solution to an issue that wont be isolated. We in the geocaching community are always open to ideas that improve our relationship with the authorities. Feel free to email us anytime.

Geocache Description:

Picnic site for the overseas visitor when visiting the zoo or for the local Perth people that like to try a nice place

This cache has been made with the overseas traveler in mind. We sometimes travel overseas ourselves and find that it is difficult to get your bearings in a new city and find a nice place to picnic with economical food. This cache is in south Perth not far from the Mend street area. Overseas people can catch the ferry from Barrack street towards the zoo and get off at mends street jetty. From here you can walk up to Mends Street Shopping precinct and buy yourself a BBQ pack of meat and salad or whatever else you want from one of the local shops. There is one at Supa-value Shop 19 Mend St Shopping Centre South Perth, WA, 6151 Phone number is 9367 2260. This is a short walk up from the jetty. Then walk back down to the water and along the shoreline and head towards the cache. On the way there you will pass the BBQ’s and picnic area. Put the meat on and turn on the BBQ. They are free to use. While it’s cooking send someone off the find the cache. This should only take 5 minutes. Bring it back to your picnic and take your time to fill in the log and take a few photos of your picnic to show the rest of the world just how nice a place Perth is. Remember to replace the cache afterwards. You will notice that it’s a popular place and that there are huge multi-level flats in the area. They can see you from their lounge so don’t make it to obvious that you are searching for the cache. The Cache isnt hidden in the bushes or shrubs. Look where the man made object meets the ground. Reach under and collect the cache. You may find it easier to approach it from the side rather than the top. Its not visible just trust us and reach in for it or use a torch if you are worried about things that bite. You may need to post a guard while you do this as we almost got seen placing it. This picnic area is very good in the hot afternoons as the hill behind shades the foreshore by about 4pm so you won't fry. For locals or those with cars the car-park allows all day parking and you could use it as a base for shopping in the city for the day BUT do take note that its NOT FREE so if you park here buy a ticket or leave someone to watch out for parking inspectors while you hunt out the cache. Free parking is at the Coode street jetty (well it used to be last time we were there) its not a big walk from there to the cache. We have taken a huge panorama of the city if you want us to e-mail it just ask us but its 1meg so make sure you can receive that large a file before asking. No hotmail addresses as they will kick it back to us. We hope this makes the overseas visitor feel welcome and keeps their budget in control. Lyn Pat and Nathan.
