Containers are at all the sites except the first. At site No. 1 you get numerical information from bridge abutments, and this data is needed to find site No. 2. If you wish to do No. 1 and 2 together, print or memorize the following information:
At location No. 1 you need to take two readings. The first reading is found at the official coordinates listed for Ramapo Riparian (N 41° 07.124’ W 074° 09.598’).
On the concrete, below highway level, there is a green S-facing rectangular survey marker with seven white digits. Record these.
The second reading is found at a nearby abutment (N 41° 07.029’ W 074° 09.636’). At the colorful mural, three more numbers are buried within the graffiti, symbolic of an event in recent history. Record these too.
Now write the first seven numbers followed by the second three numbers. Just line them up in order to form a ten-digit string. Reading left to right, take the first five as group 1 and the second five as group 2.
ABCDEFG from reading 1.
HIJ from reading 2.
Ten-digit string: ABCDEFGHIJ.
Group 1: ABCDE.
Group 2: FGHIJ.
Derive the correct minutes of location No. 2. The degree values will remain the same: 41°N and 74°W.
Use this conversion:
(ABCDE - 46998) = KLMNO
(FGHIJ - 30102) = PQRST
Remember to use ZEROs in the coordinate format!!
You now obtain the coordinates for site No.2.
N 41° KL.MNO’
W 74° PQ.RST’
Remember to use ZEROs in the coordinate format!!
The rest of the caches in the series contain logbooks with written leading coordinates. If you post notes here regarding your progress, PLEASE do not include spoiler info. Have fun.
