Geocache Description:

This cache is located on Thunderbolt Mt. in the Swan Range. And this is an over night trip. Best to use Thunderbolt Mt. Quadrangle Montana 7.5 min. series topo. Best to go to Goat Creek forest service station, and follow the road up to Napa Point. There you can find the trail head for Napa trail 31. Take it to Alpine trail 7 and head north another 5 miles to Thunderbolt Mt. At 47 51.455, 113 40.161 you will find a campsite along the trail ,and water about 1/8 mile on up the trail.

There is a small lake about another two miles up the Trail, Crevice Lake, this is also a great camp site. Alpine Trail 7 is steep in places and plan on at least 7 hours to hike in. The trail north of the first camp site is being relocated so try to stay on the new trail. At point 47 51.985, 113 39.976 you will find an old trail that leads up to the old lookout, which was burned by the USFS about 35 years ago. However the old trail still can be followed. It is dangerous higher up and very little tread left and be sure to have a companion along for safety sake. Look for a large boulder about the size of a VW Beetle with an over hang on the north side. Take bear spray and enjoy the high country. If you have any questions email at "clipper59911atyahoodotcom.
