My
Dear Friend Legrand,
It's
been quite some time since we last spoke, and I fear the fault is
entirely mine. I've been neglectful of our correspondence. I assure
you though, I've had good cause, which I'll explain. I hope you'll
forgive the cryptical nature of this message, but I greatly fear
of it's interception by agents who would use it for personal gain.
You
see, I've recently happened upon a document. One that reminds me
distinctly of another. Another which, one fateful night, led to
a most memorable expedition . In fact, I dare to conject that the
two documents were no doubt created by the very same author. You'll
find a photo of my discovery enclosed for your review, and so you'll
not think me mad, as I admittedly once did you.
I've
attempted, as closely as I can remember, to employ those techniques
which you once explained, but not surprisingly, the solution eludes
me still. Nevertheless, after spending much time analyzing the document,
I found myself becoming quite familiar with it, and have begun to
discern certain peculiarities within. These observations have born
two theories that, if true, may expose a solution, or so I hope.
My
theories are thus; The symbol which the original found lacking,
remains here but disguised like the rest, and the symbol which was
predominant has been here strategically abated. Together, these
acts would seem to make solution by your methods nearly impossible.
However, though it's been some time since I've seen the original,
some pieces of this appear markedly familiar, and so I strongly
suspect that the solution here is verily identical to it's predecessor.
If this is true, I do hope you've kept the original somewhere safe,
for we may need to refer to it now.
I
anxiously await your response.
Your long time friend and confidant,
