Geocache Description:

The First Crozet Cache Dash Breakfast Event

The event will convene Saturday March 29, 2003, at the Crozet Country Club Restaurant in the village of Crozet, Va. Let's get the pronunciation straight to start with! The town was named for a Frenchman, Claudius Crozet and it is pronounced "Crow-zay".

We will start with a dutch treat breakfast and fellowship at 8:00am. Cache hunting begins sometime around 9:00am. More than 10 new caches will be announced that morning. The event will take place within a 200 acre recreational area so all caches should be within walking distance.

In keeping with the cache dash theme, each cache will contain at least $1 for the first finder. One of the caches will have a $20. Could be interesting. For those who use maps a Crozet quad topo will include the entire area of the event. Bring water, snacks and your hiking shoes as we will be on hiking trails! A drawing for door prizes will be held at 1:00pm (must be present to win).

If you plan to attend, please log as a note how many will be in your party. We look forward to seeing you there!

March 19 addition:

First, the coordinates showing up on our early cache postings are not the real coordinates. Those will be available to you on Friday before the event. We would appreciate it if you would print out your own sheets. Will save us a great deal of copying.

Second, someone asked about camping. The nearest campground is Misty Mountain Campground, about 3 miles away. Their number is 888 647-8900. Several good restaurants make Crozet home. Among them, Jarman's Gap, Crozet Pizza (reservations reqd), and Sal Pizza (try the Philly Cheese Steak).

March 25 Update

All the coordinates have been corrected. The caches are still marked unavailable but you can get the information and print the pages out. The committee decided not to put up an easyGPS file since we were giving out the coordinates this far in advance. Please make your own copies. A limited number of copies will be available on Saturday.

There are now 18 caches placed for this event. Our committee has been busy and we hope you are prepared. We will have a limited amount of water and liquid refreshment available but the park has no food or drink this time of year. There are several places in town to get lunch or you certainly may bring your own!

We look forward to meeting all of you and sharing some adventures in geocaching! The event will happen, rain or shine.
