This is a micro cache in the heart of downtown Marshall. The Jim the Wonder Dog Memorial Garden honors one of Missouri's most fascinating personalities, a very uncommon dog named Jim.
According to legend, Jim was not only a terrific hunting dog, he possessed uncanny intelligence and perhaps psychic powers. Jim could distinguish colors and even types of trees. He would obey commands given in foreign languages or Morse Code. Supposedly he even predicted the outcome of sporting events and presidential elections.
You can read an article about Jim at (visit link) but better yet, go to this garden and log the cache.
The cache is a regular-sized Altoids container. Inside is a tiny logbook, a pencil stub, a few foreign coins and a couple of lapel pins. There isn't room for anything larger. If you plan on trading you better bring small items. You might want to plan on bringing your own pen — you know how cache pencils get lost.
Please note: there is no need to get off the paths or disturb the garden. Also, the gate to the garden in locked at night so you'll have to make this one a daytime cache.
If you'd like to visit Jim's grave it's located at:
N39° 06.771 / W093° 10.583
BTW. there's a great park just beyond the cemetery that would be perfect for a picnic (not to mention being ripe for geocaching).
