I decided it was time to get a GPS Hunt stash located in the Eastern United States, so, spent my day off preparing one. I have placed one in the Finger Lakes region of Western New York State. It's located on public land.

Where: Datum WGS84 N 42 Degrees 40.088' W 77 Degrees 20.086'

UTM Coordinates: 18T 0308671 UTM 4726605

Stash: A .50 Cal Ammo box containing a log book, and a variety of "prizes" for those who find the stash.

All contents are enclosed in individual zip lock baggies, and the log book requests that all who take a prize also place something of interest in the stash. Additionally, in the log book this web site URL is listed as well as my e-mail address. Vistors are encouraged to leave a message in the log book and take a picture of themselves (Leave the camera in the stash)!

The stash has been mostly concealed w/ rocks, leaves, sticks, etc...

I suppose bushwacking to this stash may be possible however I caution the terrian is VERY rugged, hilly, etc... If you choose the best approach no dangerous terrain navigation is necesary

When will I learn... I though we we done caching when I saw a sign indicating we were in Yates county - I mentioned I don't have a find there and TazD and P6P(R) had the solution. The Spot!

After the hiking we did earlier today, I would have been happy with a cache-n-dash. Had I known the hike that before me, I would have kept quiet. Seriously, the hike was not that bad, but not something I would want to do in the winter or after a rainy week.

The cache was in great shape, especially for the age.

Thanks for the hike!

Wow..... we where looking forward to finding this one but when we started to drive into the area we realized someone was hunting and heard shots gong off but luckly we where going slightly further down and we realized we where not wearing anything orange. Anyway it was a lot of fun doing this cache even tho the terrian is a little rough especially when we took the long way to the GZ but it wasn't to bad it was harder getting out then getting to the GZ Spot. We drop off some TB and took others to move along. We also took the the non activated copper little rhody. Thanks we will enjoy it will have a new home in Hawaii. TFTF Aloha

And BTW, I left an unactivated Little Rhody Horseshoe Crab Geocoin (either a Gold or uber-rare Copper - I forget which) for the next non-New York State cacher to find the cache. Enjoy it!

#2100!!!

What can I say that already hasn't been said by the Man Buds? When the guys asked me if I wanted to join them for the best barbecue AND oldest cache this side of the Mississippi well, I jumped at the chance. If it wasn't for them I probably wouldn't have done either of those. We toyed with the idea of doing this today or on Saturday as we left Rhode Island at 6:30 a.m. (!!!) Sheer luck, good vibes, the graceful intervention of the geogods and Indian spirits of the area blessed us with an absolutely beautiful day including blue sky and little patches of snow on the ground.

This area is lovely and I can certainly see why the Seneca Indians revered it. I enjoyed the NY Times article in a former post which gave us some background on how important this place is to Native Americans. Some landscapes just make you want to whisper when you walk through them and that's how I felt here. The hike in was great and the find was a classic. I loved seeing a logbook that has been in place since 2001. I brought a Moun10Bike coin for the journey, my own personal travel bug and some others picked up in the Pacific Northwest.

Thank you BBWolf for your very organized planning, driving us all those miles and thanks to Nomad64 and amazingted for being part of the trip and helping me make this a special milestone. It was exceptional!

Barbecue, Geocaching and Beer: all three food groups for the soul. Nerves, Nomad64, BBWolf+3Pigs and I headed out on a two day caching adventure. As usual I left all the planning to Mr. Wolf and he came through once again.

Every once in a while things go 'just right'. Be it the fortuitous alignment of the stars, divine intervention or just dumb luck (my personal favorite) all plans seem to come to fruition. This being the real world I won't claim they all went as planned but everything seemed to fall into place to make this cache a perfect experience. The weather kept us guessing on the drive from Rhode Island. Every so often the sun would poke through or we got a glimpse of blue sky, only to have it fill in as we headed West. But the teasing ended once we reached the parking area. The sun made a permanent appearance and accompanied us to the cache.

We scouted photo ops on the way in, anxious as we all were to visit the site of the oldest cache east of the Mississippi. The hide is the quintessential 'old school' placement. How could it be otherwise? The woods rang with the sounds of happy traveler traders swapping bugs and coins and the shutter sounds of a third of a dozen digital cameras memorializing the event.

On the way back UP to the car we paused to catch our breath and then promptly lose it again in admiration of the fine views. The bucolic silence was broken again and again by the sounds of avid amateur shutterbugs trying to do justice to the landscape.

Thanks for the opportunity to experience this wonderful convergence.
