Geocache Description:

Let's have another picnic! This will be set up just like last year's event .... since that one seemed to go so well.

THANK YOU for the help thus far from Pulaski, PatLes, and TaranWanderer.

WHAT? It'll be a great time. It's a chance to meet the people behind the trail names we are always seeing in logs and to eat and hang out together. What could be better?

WHO? Anyone who is addicted to this hobby is invited: their families, friends, etc. It's the addiction that matters - not if you have found 10 caches or 100! As of June 6, about 70 people have indicated interest.

WHERE? Note that the coordinates were updated slightly on March 28. Notify 610-376-6337 if guests require assistance due to disabilities.

WHEN? June 8, Sunday from noon to 5pm

WHAT DO WE NEED?

  • first and foremost, you and your party
  • volunteers to help organize the various aspects
  • a few bu¢k$ for the pavillion rental - we'll pass a hat around, or maybe an ammo box! ;-)
  • Please bring a potluck dish or beverages, if you can, although this is by no means a requirement. (no alcohol allowed)
  • good weather would be nice, since this is on RAIN OR SHINE
If you are planning to attend, let us know by posting a NOTE on this page, with approximate number of people and anything you can definitely bring. Thanks - in advance!

water safety festival

f o o d

approximately 12pm until 5pm

high noon:
Official Welcome - Gather 'round.

1:45pm:
Cache Stories -Think of your best adventures. There will be an opportunity for you to take the podium, if you wish!

2pm:
A Blue Marsh Ranger will come by and chat with us about the "special use" permits now needed to place a cache within this area. Remember that this is still army-owned land, and with the alert status these days ... we can understand their extra cautiousness.

2:30pm (or right after the Ranger speaks):
Group Picture - We'd love to gather as many people as possible for the semi-obligatory group shot.

2:40pm (might be later, depending on how much of a circus the Group Picture is):
Door Prize Giveaways - We will start with the winner of the Nametag Contest.

We plan on doing a lot of relaxing and socializing! You are welcome to search for area caches, of course. Word on the street: new caches will be placed when approval from the USACE is secured. Keep your ear to the ground.

BONUS:
There is a Water Safety Festival at the Dry Brooks Day Use Area that same day!
12:00pm - 5:00pm.

The Water Safety Festival promotes safety in and around the water. Event participants include Greater Philadelphia Search and Rescue, PA Fish and Boat Commission, dive rescue agencies, and fire departments, among others. Displays and demos occur throughout the day on personal watercraft operation, canoes and kayaks, swimming safety, etc. You can also see up close the "tools of the trade."

No registration is required. The event is open to the public. More info at 610-376-6337.

pictures from 2002

  1. a frog geocoin to the first cacher to sign the logbook
  2. Garmin merchandise (hats, bags, Tshirts) - directly from Garmin
  3. beautiful stuff from the Lancaster County Conservancy
  4. ammo boxes of various sizes, courtesy of Team Apollo and Pulaski - there is even one that has that hinge opening on both sides)
  5. more good items from the Berks County Conservancy
  6. brand new swim fins from GeoChaser
  7. new model rocket with alien lander from Pulaski
  8. a mapbook with 3 counties in one: York, Lancaster, and Harrisburg from ADC Maps
  9. an unactivated TB from JinxMagic
  10. mystery items from tlendy, ArtVandelay and team bubbletree
  11. 15 cds: each is a collection of 48 old time radio shows (mp3) from ivanotr plus a bonus short radio program on geocaching. (over 24 hours of shows on one cd)
  12. an unactivated travel bug from iBrew

Our basic plan is for each cacher & their party to bring a little lunch (or something like that) for the group : a drink, a special dish you make really well, etc.

If you know what you are definitely bringing, tell the Official List Maker (so we don't all bring baked bean burritos). Here's what we have coming so far:

  • assorted chips / pretzels / cookies
  • some burgers and hotdogs and charcoal for the grill (from the $$ left over from last year's picnic) - TaranWanderer has been volunteered to be grillmaster
  • veggie spaghetti salad and some sausage and rolls
  • a can of Spam TB1B8
  • pasta salad
  • strawberries and fruit dip
  • a cooler of beverages
  • bottled water
  • case of soda
  • baked pineapple
  • cake
  • southern baked cheese corn
  • brownies
  • veggie tray
  • fruit salad
  • utensils and napkins
  • trash bags
  • plates
If you are wondering what we still need, no one has actually signed up for baked bean burritos. ;-)
