Please mark your calendars and set the coordinates for this event. Coinciding with Earth Day on April 22, come out to Chisholm Creek Park and hob-knob with the people who will help us to use parks responsibly for caching and the people who place and hunt caches.

A very informal gathering is planned at the south shelter on the NW side of the park. We'll have a weenie roast, meet one another and tell some stories. We'll also get a chance to present what geocaching is and isn't, to the people of the Parks Department. We can give our side of the story, show them what caches are, and how we hide and hunt them, and listen to their ideas or concerns.

I envision taking some of these folks out to find a cache or two, teaching them about GPS's, and also getting on their good side by having our community pick up some trash in the park. What's the downside? Don't see any. What's the upside? You get to add another log to your stats, help keep our parks open to geocaching, and clean up a speck of mother earth. You also get to put some faces with the names and caches. You might even just walk around a nice park on a warm Sunday afternoon. How can you beat that?

Bring along all your family, friends, whoever. All are welcome. Know someone who might be interested in geocaching? No better way to get them involved!

I'll even have a new cache unveiled. This one will be a multi virtual, done with the help of the Parks Department. I'll work with them to set up what is going to be a very cool cache. This one will give everyone a nice lesson in ecology. Log another cache. Two for the price of one! Wow!

So what's the cost to you, the geocacher, of all this excitement? Merely bring along the non-alchoholic beverage (park rules you know) of your choice and whatever cups you want to drink from. Also bring a trash bag of some sort and some gloves to help clean the park. That's right! For the price of a can of pop and a trash bag, you too can be a part of this fun-packed afternoon! I'll supply hotdogs, buns, ketchup and mustard. If someone would pitch in for some plates, paper towels, and chips, well by golly, we got us an event. If anyone has an extra GPS please bring it so we can loan it to the new recruits and Parks Dept folks, so they can hunt a cache themselves.

Part 2 tentatively scheduled for 4/24 or 4/25/04. See you there!
