This St. Charles Park honors Jean Baptiste Point DuSable, a black
American pioneer who was the original settler of the city of
Chicago in 1779. Later in his life, he and his wife moved to St
Charles, where he died in 1818. He is buried in the St Charles
Borromeo Cemetery on Randolph Street.
This cache replaces a previous cache that was recently archived
due to park access restrictions. Access to this cache does not
require crossing the levee.
The cache is not located at the coordinates listed above. The
posted coordinates are used for locating a major park sign. At this
sign, count the number of letters in the sign. Next, compute a
bearing and distance to the actual cache and project a new waypoint
for this cache.
• Distance in Meters = (number of letters in the sign
multiplied by 36)-6
• Bearing in degrees magnetic = number of letters in the sign
plus 2
The cache is a film cannister containing only a log sheet and
pencil (I think). To be on the safe side please bring your own
writing instrument.
