The Rural Missouri Cache at Painted Rock Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Matt1344: I'm archiving this geocache as I have not been active for years. Apparently, it's still out there and still being found, though. WHoever finds it next is free to remove it and replace it with one of their own.

Geocache Description:

You're looking for a medium size ammo box along the Osage Bluff Scenic Trail at the Painted Rock Conservation Area. This cache has recently been moved. If you entered the coordinates before 12/24/03 you better recheck them. The previous location was too easily found by non-cachers. More than half the logbook entries represented accidental finds.

My introduction to geocaching was through an article I wrote for Rural Missouri*, the statewide rural electric cooperative publication. Once I started caching my co-workers insisted I put out a cache full of Rural Missouri promotional items. Here you go . . .

What better place to put a cache than the Osage Bluff trail? This 1.5 loop meanders through the woods and takes you past two spectacular overlooks. Make sure you hike the entire trail. The views are spectacular and well worth the walk. Some of the walk is steep. It is not stroller-friendly.

Either direction you go on the trail you'll need to walk about 3/4 of a mile to get to the cache. Starting from the right the trail is flat and level most of the way. The left leg is much more rugged but also more interesting.

The cache itself should be easy to find. This should be a good one for the kids.

As always, I've tried to make this a decent cache stocked with good items. Please be considerate of future cachers and leave things you would like to find. Don't worry about trading fairly for the Rural Missouri stuff. If you want something, take it.

* For those of you who don't know, Rural Missouri is a monthly publication provided to some 450,000 members of non-profit, member-owned electric cooperatives in Missouri. We have a web site at (visit link) and you can see our story about geocaching at (visit link)
