Geocache Description:

Note: the above coordinates are not the actual cache location, but they are on a path that one might travel, on the journey to the cache. Gandolf adds, "Traveling to this location WILL NOT be of assistance in locating the first destination."

Gandolf sighed,

Gandolf sighed,

Oh, Gimli my friend, did you know that Frodo has lost the Ring to Golum?! I have just learned that Golum has hidden the Ring and now Frodo needs help in finding it. Sometimes I don’t know why the fellowship entrusted the Ring’s safekeeping to the likes of that hobbit. I adore the Baggins family, but they do cause me much grief on occasion!

I shant enter Mordor to show Frodo where the Ring lies hidden. Sauron would know immediately of my presence there.

Instead, this very day I am sending the hobbit a message that discloses the location of the Ring. I want you to carry this message directly to Frodo, and I pray that Sauron and his minions do not impede your journey. I have hidden the location of the Ring in the message, in a manner that I believe Sauron’s henchmen shall not understand.

Once Frodo has reclaimed the Ring, he may use it to learn the path to Torech Ungol, the only safe route to the Crack of Doom.

Gandolf paused, considering his words. Let me explain to you Gimli, how one locates the Torech Ungol with the Ring’s assistance. I want that you deliver these instructions to Frodo directly, as I fear he does not know of them by his own accord.

First, where the Ring lies, note the total number · of elements that comprise its structure. Subtract this sum (right justified) from the Ring’s current northerly position. This then, is the path on which the Toreth Ungol shall be found.

But wait!· Note the least common element comprising the Ring. Determine that element’s ‘value’ and consider that value ‘z.’ Now note the most common element comprising the Ring. Determine that element’s ‘value’ and consider that value ‘x’. Finally, determine the ‘value’ of the element that remains. Subtract ‘x’ from that value and call that difference ‘y’.

Are you following this Gimli? Be assured that we are almost finished.

Finally, subtract ‘xyz’ (right justified) from the Ring’s westerly position. Where this path meets the other is where the Toreth Ungol shall be found.

Oh, Gimli, I almost forgot, here in Middle Earth, we know only of degrees. And one more thing, I have sent Fanghorn to guard the entrance to Torech Ungol until you arrive.

Now be off, but be wary of the minions of Sauron, they are ever present where you travel.
