The Great Albuquerque
Cache Hunt is comprised of two parts to test your knowledge of Albuquerque
and its geocaching community. Part 1 is a coordinate hunt where orange stickers
have been hidden in a similar manner to other local caches. Part 2 is a "locationless"
hunt where you are asked to seek out specified landmarks. You are encouraged
to participate in both parts. Certainly people who have been geocaching in
Albuquerque for a long time will have the edge, but newbies here should still
be able to participate and have fun.
Each cache or location
found is worth one point. The team at the end with the most points will be
the winner of the Great Albuquerque Cache Hunt. You have from 8:00 AM until
2:00 PM to find as many caches/locations as you can. At 2:00 please stop
all searches and begin to head to the rendezvous spot (see coordinates
above). There you will check in and get your score. We have given you until
3:00 to check in just in case you happen to be out in the boonies at the
stop time.
Prizes: Yes, there
will be prizes awarded, but they will be acquired in the great geocache tradition
- "exchange". Each team member is asked to bring a prize to donate
to the event in exchange for another prize. The top team will get first
picks, second team next picks, and so on.
There can be as
many or few people in your team as you want. However, each team must stay
together for the hunt. To prove your team participated together, you are
required to take a picture of your team at each cache/location found.
(We will allow the photographer to be missing from the picture.) Include
enough background scenery in the picture for the judges to verify you
were at the correct location. Digital still cameras and camcorders will work
well for this. However, if you only have access to a film camera, you must
get the pictures developed and printed prior to the rendezvous. Please plan
your time accordingly.
Part 1: Orange Sticker Cache Hunt
A small circular
orange sticker has been placed at each cache location listed below. You are
asked to find the sticker and write down the two digit number on it.
This number is your proof that you found the cache. Also, remember that a
picture is required to prove your team stayed together. These stickers are
hidden in a setting or location somewhat similar to other local caches. They
may or may not be in plain sight. A simple clue is provided such as "Inspired
by the Plugge Family". This means that the sticker is hidden in a similar
manner to one of the Plugge Family caches. These are all in and around the
Albuquerque area.
If you're positive
that a sticker is missing from its location, take a picture anyway. If you
can, call the Puzzler (505-228-1314) and let him know. If he determines that
indeed the sticker is missing, you'll get credit. However, if the sticker
is there and you missed it, you'll get no credit.

Part 2: Locationless Cache Hunt
Locationless caches
are an obscure part of geocaching but are perfect for our test of your knowledge
of the local area. Each locationless cache might have a goal such as "Find
a church over 100 years old". Your task then would be to find any location
that matches that goal. Search the list of locationless caches on the Geocaching.com
web site and find as many matching locations as possible. (For this tournament,
we are ignoring the geocaching.com rule that each location can only be claimed
once.) Document your find by taking a picture of your team with GPS at the
location. Write down the waypoint number of the cache so we can verify your
find during check-in. If you wish to later officially log your find on the
geocaching web site, you will also need to record the coordinates of the location.

Be aware that there
are over 300 locationless caches on record. Select any ones you want to seek.
You are permitted to drive as far as you wish to claim a location. Plan your
time accordingly.
