Geocache Description:

“In the midst of the agitation and tumult of a world given over to unprecedented disorder, in the midst of the suffering of innumerable peoples, prey to the ravages and calamities of the war or victims of error, the slogan etched more deeply than ever on the heart of every Canadian should be: Unity, Stability and Progress.” Source: Meighen, Arthur. The great issue to be resolved: the time has come to render a clear verdict. Ottawa: [Office of the Prime Minister], 1921.

****Welcome to the Chateau Meighen: Travel Bug Hotel and Emporium****

"One great secret of successful debate: when you have a man under your hammer, never be tempted into doubtful ground and give him a chance to digress. How often I witnessed men in the House who had a case, and who really had their opponents cornered, doddle off into other ground and give the enemy a chance to change the subject and come out not too badly worsted." -- Arthur Meighen, 1943

This is the fourth in a series of caches related to Canada's Prime Ministers. To find the cache, you'll need to do some exploring and some research on Canada's eleventh Prime Minister (the picky amongst you will note he was the ninth individual to serve as Prime Minister, but served the eleventh term).

The above co-ordinates are for the nearby airport! To find the cache you will need to solve a short puzzle:

N 45 ab.cde

Substitute the letters for the numbers in the answers to the following:

a – Number of sons he had
b – Last digit of the year in which he died
c – Day of the month on which Borden sent Meighen
his 'lucky sprig.' d – The sum of the last two digits of the year in which he was first appointed a Senator minus five
e - The sum of the number of letters in his wife’s first name plus one

W 75 fg.hij

f – Last digit in the year during which he was called to the bar
g – Last digit of the year in which he won his first Common’s seat plus one
h – Last digit in the year of his death
i – Number of daughters he had plus one
j – Last digit of the year in which he received his Math Degree from University of Toronto minus five

When planted, the “emporium” part of the hotel contained:
- Log book, pencils, sharpener
- Geocaching manifesto
- Geocaching store items – car decal, iron-on patch, and compass
- Cache in/trash out bags from “Rouge Booth”
- Measuring tape
- Hammer
- Street chaulk
- South African Rand
- Where’s Willy $5 bill (www.whereswilly.com)
- PIA Keychain
- McDonalds’ movie toy

The following were honoured to be the Hotel’s first guests:
- Dr. Freudy Frog
- Stinger – Hockey Arena Mascot
- Read Me!
- Bone Bug
- Magneto the Traveler
- Mr. Potato Head

This cache serves three purposes.

First, the emporium is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, to service all your geocaching desires. Feel free to find the cache, make a log, trade some items, make goofy photos, or whatever else you would do with a regular cache.

Second, the hotel is designed to service the needs of travel bugs on the move. It is conveniently located near the McDonald-Cartier International Airport (YOW) for those bugs in need of a home on the road. Feel free to make a TB exchange, to take a travel bug to help it along its way, or to leave a TB for pick-up. Please take only one TB at a time so that others can also enjoy the fun!

Third, have lots of fun watching the planes come and go!

There is parking at: N45 20.176 and W 75 39.104 or N 45 20.050 W 75 38.588.

The trails are also dog-friendly, but be cautious of traffic near the parking areas. This should be winter friendly, but will likely require snowshoes or cross country skies for ease.

Have fun!
Cheers,
5Newfs

***Update: Cache replaced July 11, 2004. Very close to trail!****
