Geocache Description:

Cache disabled on request of the Kings Park Board. Read my final log entry as to how to log it as a find. This will only be available for a short time...about 2 weeks. Do not try to find the cache it will not be there. For a short while I will accept a photo of you standing near "waypoint one" as a find for the cache. Remember do not try to find the cache and do not go off path

Times have changed and its Time to Archive this cache on Request of the "Kings Park Authority" we assume. We were sent an email that caches "off path" were not allowed. The email was polite and seems a reasonable request. I will be removing the cache on Friday 26 oct 2007. Please dont attemt to find the cache as it wont be there. For a short while I will accept a photo of you standing near "waypoint one" as a find for the cache. Remember do not try to find the cache and do not go off path “The DNA Experience or Gnomes Holiday from Perth”... Please if you are local feel free to TAKE and ADD to this Cache.... International travelers (and of course any locals) you can find this Cache if you are visiting Perth for a day or two it is easily accessible even on foot and should take about 2 hours to complete if walking. The cache is in Kings Park, which is very near the center of the city, and the hunt starts near the main entrance of the park at the top of Mount Street (you will find your own way from there). You can drive as well for most of it and the level is a “1 star” Although we think the idea is a “5 star” (see us patting ourselves on the back here). Parking is free.

My brother Peter has put forward the idea of the Gnome holiday and it is a great idea of his. We have named the first Gnome “Peter”. We have taken a nice picture of “Peter the Gnome” with the rest of the Gnome family. This Gnome wants to go for a trip overseas. If you are an International traveler please take him and put him in another cache and tell us where he has gone. Lets all see just how many places he can go to. Take photos of him in various places. Of course he wants to be seen in famous places and with famous people if possible (e-mail us with the photos lynpatnat@yahoo.com) LET THE LITTLE GNOME SEE THE WORLD.

We have also placed or will place, as we need to the rest of the gnome family. They have their choice of destination on their card (Australia, Asia, Europe etc.). If you can take them on a holiday and allow them to fulfill their wish it would be appreciated. The card around their neck is their Passport. Take one for your own and leave the rest around his/her neck for the next recipients. Remember the idea is to document where he/she has gone. Photos and email to us and on the forum in the “Australia” section would be great.

There are also the usual things in the cache like toys and some foreign currency that we have collected in our own travels. (Indian, Indonesian, Danish and Old Australian 1 and 2 cent pieces) add what you want and take what you want.

Kings Park is the place to start this challenge. The end is near the DNA Tower in Kings Park.

STEP 1: Start by finding the memorial at ( S 31.57.501 E 115.50.628 ) Queen Victoria is the Dear woman’s name. You will see the years of her Reign...1*** - 1***… You can look up a book (she was the Queen of England as you all know) or find the statue and see them written on it. Write these down you will need them for the final formula to find the cache.

STEP 2: Light Horse memorial. ( S 31.57.409 E 115.50.626 ) Not too many hints here you will have to find it yourself (its not far away though). The question is. What number is their regiment? Write it down.

STEP 3: Find the DNA tower. ( S 31.57.857 E 115.50.172 ). Climb it and count the steps both on the way up and down. The question is. How many is there in total? (We counted differently on each side of the tower) I think you can find this information if you look in the tourist information kiosk also.

You are now within 200 meters of your destination. Walk 100 meters along the large green boulevard until you are near the big tree on the left. Sit down and let you GPS work out where you are with good Satellite numbers, now walk into the bush on the left. 100 meters to go to destination

The Asterisk * means that is a number you will have to fill in. I have made it as fool proof as possible so I hope you can work it all out.

Step 4: South Coordinates:
Add the years of Victoria’s Reign together and the number of steps of the DNA tower to this number also, then remove the first digit of the 4 digit number you have. So it becomes like this 1*** + 1*** = 3**2 + (steps total)=**** delete the first number of this figure = **1 Or if this is too hard or to double check the number you can use this formula.

The number of the light horse Regiment (previously mentioned in Step 2) and add 931 to this. So it becomes ** + 931=*4*

It’s not a hard quiz is it!!! You will now have a 3-digit number. Place that number into the missing number box ( S 31.57.*** )some of you may already see that you can almost work this out without going to these places. Step 5: East coordinates: How many years did Queen Victoria reign? Add the light horse regiment Number to this and then add 7 to this number. You will have a 2 digit number that replaces the ** in this group ( E 115.50.0** ) . So it becomes **(her age at death)+ **(the light horse regiment number)+ 7= ** (the number needed) Or if you want a quick and easy answer: The first 2 numbers of the start of her reign year reversed are what you want and will get you there So where did this get you? Maybe you had to cheat? (The final coordinates are in the decode part at the bottom of the page). Lyn Pat and Nathan e-mail us at lynpatnat@yahoo.com
