This is a hiker’s delight for beautiful views of Cave Run Lake. Depending on where you start the journey, you might need two days to complete this multi-cache.

This multi-cache has (?) number of small tupperware caches that contain a log notepad and an info sheet for finding each subsequent cache. The instructions are in UTM 17s NAD83 coordinates, so you will have to convert in your GPS.

I placed maps for Cave Run as booty throughout the multi-cache. Please take only one set. If you find a better set in the next cache, don’t take both… swap it out.

I put maps in the cache, because maps help make this multi-cache less troublesome. If you’re late in the game, bring a map. If you don’t like maps, prepared to be flummoxed by the terrain, unless you’re a veteran of these knobs. At a minimum, you will climb a steep cumulative 1,500ft to find all geocaches, not including the trail you hike to get to the best approach.

The first geocache is easy to find if you look under the right stack of rocks. When you find the first cache, you will understand the logic…so just muscle through the rest. Look for overgrown logging roads and game trails to make your trek easier. The second geocache is tough to find, but has a nice fire ring and campsite area.

May 26, 2006: Plan for a 12 mile hike. You can do it iin a shorter distance, but not necessarily easier or quicker.

This cache literrally wore the tar out of me - but it instantly becomes my #1 favorite terrain find.

My hike from the car started 12:11pm (nearly 2 miles just to get to stage 1) - got the final at 4:17pm - but it wasn't until about 6:30pm that I was finally getting back to my car. So when it comes to the ? number of stages, don't forget the twist - even though you're done, you're not done!!

I picked up a surfboarding California Raisin from a cache in Ohio a while back and it happened to be in my pocket at the time. So he instantly became my mascot for this cache. I took him along for a photo at some of the stages.

They sure don't make 500 feet in Kentucky the way they do in Ohio. The 60-70 degree slopes would kill an old man and darn near killed me. TeddyR said it best - UPHILL BOTH WAYS! My calves never had quite the workout I did in getting this cache. But I still loved every minute of it! And along the way I stopped for a beautiful shoreside view of Cave Run Lake.

Just when I thought you'd throw another stage at me it said "the end".

Thanks for a VERY memorable cache. I had a blast!!!
Enjoy the pics.

By the way - the containers are in degrading shape. Whoever goes to get this one next I advise bringing some replacement tupperware or better yet lock-n-lock containers.

This is the first Geocache that I searched for. I purposely looked for one that was a far hike over difficult terrain. I was not dissapointed. The maps were wonderful as well. Thanks for the experience. I will definitely be looking forward to searching for more caches in the future.

Wow!!!!!

I have been looking at this cache for several months now. Its just one of those caches that you just don't do my yourself..

I did the "Rocky Top' cache in the Red River Gorge area by myself and felt stupid afterwards..

I saw this one and thought it would be a FUN challenge to tackle. I just had to find someone willing to tackle it with me. Luckily, JDalie jumped at the chance and took a few days off of work to attack this cache with me.

I live in the Springfield, Ohio area. My father grew up in that general area namely Morgan County. I have family still in the Morgan County area--Wrigly and West Liberty. I can remember the tunnel over there by Poppin Rock I believe it is-- in fact my dad lived there for a while down along the river I remember listening to him telling us stories of walking to school-- Up Hills both ways... I can remember being somewhat scared on our approach to the old "Debbie Hill".

After having done this cache I can now understand the concept of uphill both ways.

We did not do too well for that first stage. We parked our car and took off and after about a half mile walk we realized that the approach was fruitless-- we would discover later that we were less then 200 yds from the final stage.

Uggg we make it to the 1st stage many miles later and a few pounds lighter I am sure. We fight our way in figuring out how to make our GPSr to work with the 17 s nad83. We had left our packs maybe a 50 yards from the location of the 1st stage. We descend back to the pack and I look to see which direction the cache was in AND see that the cache was very close to where we had just been a little while ago, I think it might be a waypoint I placed on the hike---so I had to make the climb up again--- THAT WAS PURE PAIN--

Whether I had the right numbers or not is irrelevant at this point. We make it to stage 2. and here I read the log book and see someone had written their email in it. a msn.com email address and I was curious to know if they were related to me since we have the same last name.. I forget the first letter of the email. Might have to read a few of the posts to see if anything jogs my memory.

We were careless on one of the last stages-- we took a 5 terrain approach only to find out we could have walked a little further and found a much better approach..

It was a good day a FTF across the way in Twin Knobs camping area and then this multi cache that is not visited too often.. Now its time to rest my poor body....

Thanks for the cache and the experience. This ranks as one of my most grueling smileys yet.

WOW!!!! Awesome views, nice cool weather, and a good hiking buddy made this one a great adventure. TeddyR and I decided to tackle this one a while back and it was a great decision. The hike was long, the hills were brutal at points but it was well worth it for the scenery and the experience. TeddyR made this one possible for me. He found it, he drove, and he provided a nice place to sleep in his family cabin nearby. This one will always be the one remembered, if not for its merits, for my still burning muscles.

What’s funny is that we started at the wrong trail head at first and we were so close to the final that if we had been looking for it we might have found it. We were within 200’ of it before deciding to turn back and look for a better approach to stage one. You know, one that didn’t require a decent down a 60° slope, through water, and back UP another 60° slope.

OH! Thanks for the nice maps! They made things a little easier except for when we decided to ignore them and make a vertical ascent to the final. This is where I lost my cell phone (it wasn't of much use there anyway) but I can say with great relief that we were able to find it later after we finished and found an 'easy' way back down.

Thanks for the great excuse to go on a long hike and an awesome multi hunt! --JD

GO BUCKS!!!
