Geocache Description:

A nice little cache on Heybrook Ridge. If the weather is good, the view is awesome!

This cache is in honor of a friend of ours who is a real "character". Tim, we love you, man!

No tricks, only treats, here, and lots of fresh air. The main difficulty in this cache is the physical effort to get there. In good weather, you can see Mt. Index, Bridal Veil Falls, Mt. Persis, Mt. Philadelphia and Mt. Baring, not to mention everyone's favorite US2.

Heybrook Ridge is the site of the Seattle Mountaineers Navigation course fieldtrips. The cache area itself is near our lunchtime stop. (Students are required to identify the peaks across the valley; that is, when we can actually see them.) Bring a sack lunch and enjoy a well-deserved break.

Your objective is a small green ammo can filled with goodies.

Parking for this cache can be found at Heybrook Look Out trailhead off US2. Forest Pass or Golden Eagle Passport required.

The trail to the lookout tower is well marked, but steep in some places and follows (and crosses) a stream bed in several places. Once past the lookout tower, you will follow service roads and trails until the last 100 ft or so, which is a bit of a scramble over some rocks on what looks like a game trail. I highly recommend sturdy walking shoes, at least; boots would be better.

Depending on your level of conditioning, this cache could take an hour or two, an afternoon, or the whole day. Plan accordingly. Remember the 10 essentials for hiking. Most importantly, bring water and allow enough time to return to your car before dark (or have a good light source).
