An easy walk in a Hampshire Wildlife Reserve right on the door step of the Air Traffic Control Centre for England & Wales.
A lovely walk in the Hampshire Wildlife Trust nature reserve at Swanwick Hampshire. http://www.hwt.org.uk/files/swanwick.pdf Have a look at the National Air Traffic Services web site here. http://www.nats.co.uk/about/index.html NATS provided the the nature reserve to HWT when building the New En-Route Centre. The reserve is now a well established nature reserve and extremely pretty. Both myself and Andrea work in the Air Traffic Control Centre and have long thought that this would be a lovely place to hide a cache. In planting it we sought permission from both NATS and the HWT which we have received. Firstly, find your way to Swanwick lane and then Sopwith Way which has at the end of it the Air traffic Control Centre, turn right just before the gates into the signposted Nature Reserve. The Car Park there is at N50.53.161 W001.16.950. at the bottom of the slope. Take the clockwise route around the reserve and when you get near to North Meadow (approx 20 minutes) then start looking. This route is mostly on made up paths. You can also take an anticlockwise route to the cache which will take about 35 minutes. This route may be a bit more heavy going and goes via several lakes. We have stocked the Cache with the following items; Coloured Pencils (kids can pop in to the reserve centre to do colouring) Animal snap Cards Grasshopper (not real) Multicoloured Comb Floating Vanilla Candle Mini Mouse Selection of Bangles (not the pop group) Calculator A NERC Technical Handover Parker Pen A NERC Operational Pin Badge 2 Amec Pens A Large Balloon (great to fill with water) We have also included a camera, for you to take a picture of yourself with the cache. We'll put the best ones on the web page in due course. Take time to glance around the remainder of the Reserve whilst you are there. Enjoy. :-)
