Moonbeams Sanctuary

A wide variety of ecological communities exist here including swamps, forest and upland meadows. Preserve is bounded on the west by a trout stream, the Shawangunk Kill. Nearby, skunk cabbage, liverworts, poison sumac and leatherwood grow. To the east, there is a swamp with azalea, rhododendron and mountain laurel. Open fields provide sites for ground-nesting birds and feeding sites for hawks, bluebirds and others. Trails are maintained free of brush but are not formally marked.
Moonbeams Sanctuary was transferred to the Orange County Land Trust, one of The Nature Conservancy's long-time partners in land protection, in October 2001. The land trust will oversee the protection and management of this property.
Directions:
From Rt. 17 West: exit 118, left onto Brown Rd to stop sign. Right at stop sign to Prosperous Valley Rd. Left onto Prosperous Valley Rd.; follow 2.4 miles to sanctuary; park on right behind wooden sign. From Rt. 17 East: exit 118, turn right and follow 1 mile to Prosperous Valley Rd. Follow directions above.

Park in the designated spot. The trail starts across the street. You do not have to leave the trail until you are very close to the cache.
Original contents include: pens, easter egg, Speed Racer TB, eraser, After Bite stick, calculator, playing cards, 6" ruler, pencil sharpener, beach money holder, 9V battery, log book, and camera. Please use the camera, then replace it in the cache.
