Geocache Description:

Mid-Mo Geocaching Get-Together #3

Geocaching continues to grow in scope and popularity around this part of the state, and that's great. This picnic is a chance to enjoy some BBQ, meet familiar faces, and hopefully say hello to lots of new ones.

This will also hopefully serve as a chance to lay the groundwork for a Mid-Missouri geocaching organization. As more and more caches are placed and more and more people become involved, it's good to have a group that can help introduce and assist newbies to the sport, maintain caches for those who are away or have left the area, and, if necessary, serve as a contact point for land managers and park officials.

But most importantly, this picnic is a chance to get outdoors and have a good time! Even if you're not interested in the organization, you're more than welcome to stop by and join in the fun.

Date: July 19, 2003
Time: 12:30 PM - ?
Location: Nifong Park (see below)

Who can attend
Anyone! It doesn't matter if you've found 0 caches or 1000. Park managers, rangers, and others interested in geocaching are also encouraged to come.

What will be provided
Hamburgers, hot dogs, buns, plates, utensils, cups, and some two-liters of soda.

What you should bring
A side dish, snack, or dessert to share, your GPS, lawn chairs (if you want), and a trade item or two to help stock the picnic cache that will be placed at the event. After the picnic, we'll be going over and hiding it as a replacement for the archived Capen Park Cache, a golden oldie that deserves a second chance.

It would also be good if someone could volunteer to bring a cooler or two to put the drinks and ice in.

Directions and park info
Nifong Park is located on the southeast side of Columbia, just off U.S. Highway 63. Click here for a map with driving directions.

In addition to all the typical park features, it boasts a stocked fishing lake, so bring your rod and reel if you'd like. It's also home to a farm animal observation area (lots of pigs and ducks and sheep), the Boone County Historical Society Museum, and the historic Maplewood Home. The Maplewood Mini Multi Micro Mystery Cache (5m) is a fun cache that's also in this park.

Additional info
Please post a note on the cache page (or email me via the link above) and let us know if you're coming and how many people you plan to bring, so we know how much supplies to buy. You may log this cache as a 'find' after the event. Hope to see you there!
