Cemetery Quest - Brownsville Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

snookie74: It is with deep regret that I am having to archive this entire series. It has been in existence for almost 13 years and has had a great run. I adopted it 6 years ago and have really enjoyed the logs from all of the visitors and even the times I had to visit for maintenance. I have no idea what prompted the cemetery managers to have an issue with this, as in my experience, Geocachers are very respectful of their surroundings. I have the option to place the caches outside of cemetery property, but I am choosing not to do so. I feel the enjoyment of doing a cemetery series is the history of the headstones and the atmosphere of the cemetery itself. I hope everyone that visited these places enjoyed them as much as I did. My apologies to those of you who started this and will not be able to finish.

Geocache Description:

*UPDATE* 7/29/10-Some trees have fallen over the trail to the cache. You will have to climb over 3 pretty good sized trunks to get past. I am increasing the terrain rating to reflect this. I will change it back again if the trees are removed.

Additonal Info
The last known caretaker died in the 1950’s. Most likely before this housing development was built. The owner of the house surrounded by a brown wooden fence (red dot in the picture) showed me what remains of the cemetery today. He is aware and supportive of the cache that has been placed there. You can climb up to the cemetery or there is trail of sorts that begins between the woods and his fence and circles back behind into the woods. From there it becomes overgrown until you reach the small cleared area where the stones are located.
