Cache Information The reefs at the eastern end of Grand Cayman have long been a hazard to shipping. In the past, East End was known as the Graveyard of the Caribbean. The most notable wreck was that of the Ten Sail, in February 1794, when ten ships foundered off what is now known as Gun Bay.

Miraculously, only eight lives were lost. It would be another 100 years before the first lighthouse was built. There is a nice park for the Wreck of the Ten Sails nearby. Since 1919 a lighthouse has stood on the east end. It was kerosene powered and served until 1937 when the government placed a more modern lighthouse. These modern lights were automatic sun-valve (gas) controlled and could be left unattended for 6 months. Unfortunately this led to the end of a job for the lightkeeper.

The cache is in a 1.5 quart tupperware container.

Big thanks to M&M Melted for replacing the old leaky container!!
