Rocky Horror Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

OReviewer: From the Northern Region Office, New Jersey State Parks Department:

Over a year ago New Jersey enacted a policy that all geocachers must obtain a permit to have their cache on State Park property. We have informed all geocaching host that this is their responsibility and have given them ample time to go about getting their permits. At this time, over a year later, there are still several caches that haven’t complied.

We ask that as the land managers for the attached properties we would like to have these illegal caches removed.

Based on the list provided by the state, I am forced to archive this listing. If you have a permit, get a permit or don't believe your cache is on state park/forest land, please contact me via email. Make sure you include the GC code.

If you don't plan to get a permit, please remove your geocache so it doesn't become geo-trash.

Geocache Description:

Rocky Horror...or maybe not. That's for you, the hunter, to decide. Choose your route wisely. This is a short, but interesting walk in this rarely visited section of the park.

The cache is in Ramapo Mountain State Forest, but the closest access is via a public hiking trail that crosses private property. Be sure to follow the instructions on this page.

Park on the right side of Pool Hollow Road, just east of the RR tracks. There are two spots here, that have room for 3-4 cars each. This is legal parking for those using the trail.

Catch the yellow blazed, Hoeferlin Trail just over the RR tracks. Be sure to stay on the trail, as it crosses private property here. The trail turns right at the pond and passes behind the landowner's yard and corral. Shortly after you pass the corral, you will be on state land.

The cache is well hidden. Kindly ensure that it remains that way.

Among the original contents are a nice first finder prize and also, a pre-made, "stash your own" mini cache. It's a Lock-n-lock container, complete with a logbook, pencil and cache letter. Just add a few small items and hide.

Note: there are other routes this cache. Each requires a longer walk than from the suggested parking area.
