Geocache Description:

Lower Cross country ski/Hiking trail. Accessable by walking/ATV way points along the way to help.

The first two points are directions along the way. Go to 45 52.464N - 068 24.971W, then left at 46 00.089N 068 26.849W.
The cache is located deep in the Maine woods. Along a hiking/ski trail for a campground. The motivation for this cache came from taking my two sons on a 4 wheeler ride through the woods. During our ride we were looking for wild mushrooms and came across and old dump of yesteryear amongst the trees. With lots of items dating from the early 1900s to 1950s or so. We assumed being in the woods so far that the dump originated from a past logging camp. Upon further investigation we discovered that we had stumbled on the old dump for the long gone Shin Pond House. The destination waypoint at the top of the page will bring you to the original location of the Shin Pond House. Go inside the dwelling and locate the history of the Shin Pond House and there you will find the final waypoints to the cache.
While looking for the remaining waypoint read all about the history of the area. You are in a beautiful area of the Northern Maine Woods. Please take advantage of the camping that is available if you want to stay a night, the people are wonderful. Talk to them they will treat you like family.
You can find maps of the area and the trail at the Shin Pond House location. It is ok to take a piece of the past from the cache location as it has no historic value to the area. Just a neat little discovery found by some wandering Main-ers. Permission has been obtained by the land owner for this cache.
