The coordinates above have been slightly altered to replace the missing cache and to move it away from a known rattlesnake den. The original Tupperware cache was attacked by a bear and mauled pretty badly. It has been replaced with a traditional metal ammo box.
There have been sightings of bears, rattlesnakes and copperheads in the area, so be careful.
This is a cache to showcase the beauty of Anna Ruby Falls. You must pass the falls to get to it.
The cache is located on Smith's Creek Trail, which begins at the base of the falls.
The park opens at 9am and closes at 6pm. There is currently an admission fee of $3/person. Picnicking and restroom facilities, as well as a souvenir shop and a short handicapped trail are at the trailhead. The paved path to the falls is .4 mile and leads right to the base of the falls and the trailhead to Smith's Creek Trail. (Some facilities have closed due to cutbacks)
DO NOT GO OFF OF THE PAVED PATH
Leaving the paved path before it ends WILL NOT help locate the cache, and will only get you into trouble. Remember this is an environmentally sensitive area with many visitors.
Smith Creek Trail is a very good 5 mile hike that ends up at Unicoi State Park campground. You can save a buck by paying $2 to park there, have someone drop you off at Anna Ruby (no charge) and hiking down the mountain to your vehicle. You can pick up 3 caches this way.
Enjoy, and be aware of social trails forming to the cache. If one forms, take another route and let the earth heal.
