Double Decrypt Multi-cache

JerryB: Time to retire this one. [xx(]

I placed this cache one sunny afternoon in 2001, in a birdhouse, hanging in a tree and enjoyed watching people go through the two ciphers to decrypt the cache but alas, the birdhouse has burnt up in a fire. I knew it was in jeopardy when I recognized the treeline in the newspaper pictures up here in San Jose. Thanks go out to all the fine folks who took the time to learn how to decipher the text, it was laborious putting all the pieces together and very rewarding watching the finders on line. I hope you enjoyed the hunt as much as I.

Geocache Description:

A.K.A.'VVLPDGGMF' As I've always said, "If it were easy, everyone would do it." You'll work both body and mind seeking this one. The location offers spectacular views, good mountain bike trails, wildlife, and interesting geology. You might even be lucky enough to spot a rattlesnake or two!

Fixed, thanks gpsdave and Sr.hikers. Sorry for the confusion. Jerry.

The cache box is about 4x6x8 inches, and is hidden by disguise rather than concealment. Return everything as you found it and please no spoilers in the logs!

Cache contents: log book, pens, pencils, foreign coins, a brain eraser, chess set, combo whistle / compass / etc., two stickers, a weather book and 4 new AA cells. Awards for the first three finders are included to encourage a fast find.

Terrain: If you hike from the link give yourself another star since there is parking closer to the cache. Bikes, dogs, horses, emus are all welcome, and the only off-trail trekking necessary is at the cache. If you're the thirsty type you might want to bring water.

Difficulty: Linked, encrypted, unknown container, and other twists earn it four stars. Decrypt the simple substitution cypher in the next paragraph for further instructions.
