On a peninsula in Tres Palacios Bay.
Adopted 07/30/2009 by Purtee from Shortypen

Theoretically you could walk to this location, there is a public road that ends about a 1.5 miles away. I went there by sailboat, launched at a public ramp 1/2 block west of the Luther Hotel (361) 972-2312 408 S Bay Blvd, Palacios, TX 77465 N28-41.924 W096-13.111 and sailed 3.5 miles due south to the tip of the peninsula.
I heard about this place from a couple of other sailors, it is an excellent place to anchor because it is deep enough to accomodate a reasonable draft, has a beach area, and is protected from the prevailing south winds.

Had a wonderful day sailing - the winds were from the south so I did a little tacking to get there.
Bunch of jelly fish while sailing out, went thud thud on the centerboard and rudder when I would go thru a cluster of them.
Lots of mullet swimming by the shore and jumping out of the water.
I did a couple of throws with my cast net, and every time would pull in more than one mullet.
Picked up a shell for my daughter, set it on the deck while eating lunch and the shell started to walk off, had a hermit crab in it.
Saw a few shrimp trawlers working the bay, and on the way home a dolphin surfaced with in arms reach of my boat.

The area is supposed to be excellent for bird watching, there is a web page about it at TX Parks: (visit link)

If you are going to kayak out here, would suggest taking an umbrella to use as a sail for the downwind part of the trip.
If you plan to walk from the access road, you will have to go thru either some marshy areas, or wade around in the water just off the beach - would suggest taking some "waders".

I Have replaced the cache, it is full of survival gear for the FTF. If you visit, bring survival gear to swap out. and if you ever get stranded there you have the gear you need!

Please insure it is out of site, dont want Moggels finding it on this secluded beach.

** Coordinates Changed From **
N 28° 38.654 W 096° 14.204
Distance From Old: 252.3 feet
The old coordinates are underwater. I had to move the cache and reestablish it. I guess this makes it kinda like a new cache but and old friend.

Geocoin drop!!! “The Queen of Caching” it’s a beautiful coin to boot! It feels like a chunk of gold bullion.

No Cache to be found at either site! BUT BEHOLD! It has been replaced. Everything that was, is gone so I had to move the site because the old site is now underwater, I guess Hurricane Claudette (SP?) must have taken that part of the Island. There was also an alternate cache site there, I have removed the alternate cache all together, and the log information will reflect the new coordinates.

The new set up is full of survival gear and a FTF card, so bring survival gear to trade out!

Oliver Point Beach was transferred from shortypen to user Purtee

I should be going there today to make sure the cache is still in place and if not it will be before I leave the location. Happy hunting.

No idea if it is still there or not. Have had a couple of hurricanes since placed it, so might be gone. But on the other hand, it is attached to a bush that seems to have survived for a long time, so the cache might have survived with it.

One way to find out though! Good luck hunting it, the bush should be easy to find if you get to the general area.
