Warning

Please note: To use the services of geocaching.com, you must agree to the terms and conditions in our disclaimer.

The cache is near the top of Awbrey Butte, an extinct volcano in Bend. This is the hill with all the communications towers in the northwest part of the city. Start at Sylvan or Summit Park and walk uphill, some of it moderately steep.
The closest approach is from Sylvan Park to the north (a small neighborhood park at N 44° 04.762' W 121° 20.075'). Head south, up hill and to the west of the chain link fence. Avoid nearby residences. The site is usually accessible except during heavy snow.

For a longer stroll (about a half mile), park to the east at Summit Park (N 44° 04.522' W 121° 19.662') and take the trail from the parking lot around the north side of the butte. Follow the trail along the chain link fence to near Sylvan Park and continue up hill.

Do not approach from the south up the paved access road because a fence (new as of 7/22/05) will block your way to the cache. There is no way around the fence without trespassing on private property.

The cache is a clear 3-liter Rubbermaid container with a blue top.

Antenna forest from near cache.

Can you say "electro-magnetic radiation?" The GPS seems unaffected, though.
View of Pilot Butte to east.

Walk to the west side of Awbrey Butte to see the "other" prominent butte in Bend. Pilot Butte has a very popular trail and road to the top; walk up and see if you can spot its stealth antennas.

T4TH. Been a long time since I was up here last. Back in my younger days, even been on top of the water tower, but that was before the butte got over populated. Thanks for taking me down memory lane.

Very nice day on the summit. Coords and clue spot-on. Enjoyable hike through all the fancy backyards from Summit Park. Muddy descent along the fence afterward. 3rd of 4 found today. TNSL/T4TH

First ever find. I just got my GPS this week. Lots of snow still on the ground. I signed the log and didn't take anything.
