This event is located on an Island in the Ct River.
Selden Neck is a Ct. State Park with access by boat
only. The Island is located in Lyme and is on the East
side of the River, opposite Deep River and Chester.
Ever since Sky Trek , ZingerHead and I placed a cache
on the Island we have wanted to have an event here for
canoers/kayakers and boaters. The Island is 600 acres
and its trail system is in dire need of repair. Shame
on the State of Ct. The water trek around the island
is approximately 5 miles and well worth the trip with
lots or flora and fauna to observe. There are some
nice areas for swimming, with sandy bottoms but there
are rocky and muddy areas too. We will be picnicking
at Spring Ledge at the listed event coordinates.
There are also 4 Letter Boxes on the Island and in the
challenging SkyTrek fashion a short distance up river
is a multi cache on Whalebone Creek. We also plan to
add several more caches before the event.
Parking and launching are up for grabs. We have been
using the public launch at Deep River Landing
(N41*23.725 / W072*25.594) which is free for
launching, however there may be a $10.00 parking fee.
(we have not seen anyone there to collect the money)
Another location is at both sides of the river where
the Hadlyme Ferry connects Rt.148. The west side has
very limited space but the east side has lots of room.
If you are coming from the west and want to park on
the east you will have to take the Ferry across the
river (the hours are from 10:30 till 5:00). Another way to get to the east side of the river is at the Goodspeed Bridge on Rt. 82, which is 5 miles north of Deep River and Selden Neck.
All food and drinks will have to be transported to the
Island by boat. Grilling space is limited and surely
would be time consuming. We would recommend grinders
and cold dishes. The options are yours.

Many thanks to RJ Ferret for the design of the Event page.
After spending Saturday and Sunday on and around the Island We would recommend having two pair of shoes, one for tramping through the water and mud and one for treking through the woods............NOTE! NOTE!NOTE!>>>THE EVENT IS HISTORY
.
The Last of the die hards made it off the Island somewhere around 9:30 Sunday morning. Glad the Weather forcasters were wrong on the timing of the storm. although we had some showers the heavy downpours didn't start until we left. That night cache was worth staying for, as well as a fireworks display from Eustaisa Island, (near the Warm Up cache).
Thanks for the GREAT turn out. After all it is the people who make the event. Wing-it, Skytrek and ZingerHead
