A multi cache with multi sized objects. The stages will lead you from the historic Centre Furnace to include local Walnut Spring Park.
Fire Elemental focuses on how fire has had a hand molding our local community. Centre Furnace is one of the few charcoal iron furnace stacks remaining of what was once dozens in Centre County alone. This stack was used from 1825 - 1858. Nearby Centre Furnace Mansion currently serves as headquarters for the Centre County Historical Society and was once the ironmaster's residence for Centre Furnace.
The stages of the multi cache will lead you from these 2 historic landmarks through a wonderful local park and will conclude with a walk along a path that parallels the old Hublersburg Pike. This old township road thrived during the ironmasters' era as do some of the now huge and ancient "street trees" that line the old stone wall. Bits of green slag from the furnace can be found along the way at many points.
A tip o' the Tupperware lid to Enfanta whose mentally challenging and thoughtful cache creations make geocaching in central PA exciting. This cache is dedicated to her.

Do not park nor walk along busy College Ave.
Suggested parking ( coordinates below) for Stage 1 is off of Porter Road by Centre Furnace Mansion.

Suggested parking on the NW side of Walnut Spring Lane (coordinates below) for the remaining stages.

The remaining cache stages are located in Walnut Spring Park which allows no pets but does allow bikes. With the exception of the final stage, the caches are less than 15 feet from the trail. The final cache is no more than 25 feet from the trail.
