Geocache Description:

This hide is another attempt to provide hours of entertainment for those seeking the challenge of evil micro hides. The one waypoint and final are within walking distance; bring a dollar for parking.

This cache is named for one of my heroes, Nero. Indications are that Nero came to power at the young age of 16 when his stepfather died, likely poisoned by his mother, Agrippina. Nero’s early rule was very humanitarian and he questioned the killing of gladiators and criminals in public spectacles. When Pedanius was murdered by one of his slaves, Nero was intensely upset when forced by law to have all four hundred of Pedanius slaves put to death. He gradually withdrew from administration and devoted himself to horse racing, singing, acting, dancing, poetry and “x-rated exploits”.

Agrippina was outraged by her son’s behavior and let it be known. When Nero learned of her feelings, he made several unsuccessful attempts on her life before succeeding. When the senate accepted his explanation of acting in self-preservation, Nero responded with bigger festivals and “bi-gender parties”. Before long Nero’s life was little more than a series of excesses in sport, music, “bi-gender parties” and murder. Nero “fiddled while Rome burned” when the great fire burned for six days, and thus became famous.

Nero reminds me of geocachers who seek difficult micro hides totally oblivious to the world around them. Historians generally agree that Nero was probably a bit unstable mentally and anybody in their right mind would question the sanity of wandering in circles for hours looking for a piece of paper to sign. Even worse, they want to be the most insane by being first finder.

Well enough ranting about my heroes and on with the hunt. To find the hide, you will need to use the normal geocaching tools. Use the clues found at the waypoint and think like Nero to determine the waypoint decimal latitude and decimal longitude. Be sure to bring your own writing instrument to make record of your sanity in the logbook.
