Geocache Description:

Located in Amherst, 20 miles East of Bangor. Expect to hike a fair distance of varying terrain and altitude, and expect to be rewarded along the way and at the final destination. There is a trail, but it is little more than a deer path in spots, so make note of your surroundings to avoid getting lost. A few spots can be quite steep and loose, so take care with children, and expect any attempt in snow or fallen leaves to be very slippery, which will make access difficult.

Your starting point begins off Route 9 in Amherst. To get there, follow Route 9 until you get to N44° 49.580 W68° 24.947. Head north from there on the dirt road until you get to N44° 50.466 W68° 26.128, and turn north again. Follow that road to the end and park there; the rest of your journey is on foot. The first stage of this 5-stage multi is within 1000 feet of the parking location. The first 4 stages of this multi are hockey pucks hidden not far off the trail, with the GX logo on one side, and a single capital letter of the alphabet on the other side. This letter represents a simple code, with the given letter representing 0, and the next letters of the alphabet representing the numbers 1-9 respectively. So, if one particular stage was coded with an “H”, H=0; I=1; J=2; K=3; L=4; M=5, and so on. Each stage uses a different code letter, so be sure not to confuse stages, or you may end up off trail. Coded stage coordinates are:
Stage 1: N44° 50.816 W68° 25.691 (Posted coordinates)
Stage 2: N44° 50.TTT W68° 25.PRK (Use code from stage 1) (If you are in the right area, there should be large boulders around you, with a huge one about 50 feet to the left of the trail.)
Stage 3: N44° 51.DEL W68° 25.HJL (Use code from stage 2) (If you are in the right area, there should be many lichen-covered boulders on the uphill side of the trail.)
Stage 4: N44° 51.QUR W68° 25.VRX (Use code from stage 3) (If you are in the right area, you should be near a nice vantage point of where you started your venture.)
Stage 5: N44° 51.POR W68° 25.UPR (Use code from stage 4)(Final cache! It’s not hard! Go find it!) Final cache is a camouflaged ammo box with the usual assortment of goodies, as well as a cache camera - feel free to take your picture and put back in the cache.

Alternate Directions: There is a gate that may be closed at the above starting point to stop through traffic. The directions and route below will take you through from Clifton, stopping by my Mile From a Halfmile cache and then on to Halfmile.
Take Rt. 9 until you get to N44° 49.308 W68 29.748 (HLFML1) and take the dirt road on the north side. Then follow through the following waypoints:
N44° 49.675 W68 29.367 (HLFML2) Turn left (north)
N44° 50.253 W68 29.897 (HLFML3) Turn right (north)
N44° 51.556 W68 28.560 (HLFML4) Turn right (southeast)
N44° 51.182 W68 28.081 (HLFML5) Turn left (northeast) Do this only if you want to go to the Mile From a Halfmile Cache. This trail is rougher and narrow, but is passable with decent gound clearance.
N44° 51.395 W68 27.325 (HLFML6) Parking for Mile From a Halfmile. Now on to Halmile. Turn around, and go to
N44° 51.182 W68 28.081 (HLFML7) Turn left (southeast)
N44° 50.991 W68 27.832 (HLFML8) Added bonus! If you stop here and walk the trail on the north side of the road on the west side of the stream about 200 feet, it will lead you to a very high beaver dam. [EDIT] The beaver dam is gone now, but it's still a pretty spot.
N44° 50.577 W68 26.573 (HLFML9) Continue straight (southeast)
N44° 50.454 W68 26.119 (HLFML10) Turn left (northwest)
N44° 50.806 W68 25.917 (HLFML11) Parking for Halfmile!
