Geocache Description:

Although not strictly within the 'Marketgait Ring Road' I'm still going to to class this as the City Centre as it used to be! The cache is located about 100 yards away from the Arch.

The Wishart Arch is all that's left of the original city walls of Dundee. It became a walled city in 1545 during a uneasy period of relations between Scotland and England, known as the Rough Wooing.

Its name is attributed to its probably mythical connection with the Protestant reformer George Wishart (1513-46), whose is said to have preached from the structure in 1544.

Dundee Town Council was ordered to dismantle the city walls after the Battle of Culloden (1746), but the Arch survived.

Please be sure to replace the stone when re-hiding the cache.
