The ancient church of Santa Maria in Binda of Lombard origin, dating from the eighth century and takes its name from the place where it stands. Binda in Lombard meaning "strip of land", ie the strip of land between the coast of the country and the Ticino.
Originally dedicated to the cult of the dead, this church had a funerary function, consider that even in 1680 and in 1788 there are burials carried out in Santa Maria in Binda. To confirm this, in 1904 during the excavation of the nearby canal, were also found in many tombs containing objects of the Lombard period, now preserved at the museum of the Castle of Milan.
The church has undergone several expansions over time, the latest being the construction of the elegant neo-Romanesque bell tower on the south side, dated 1936.
