Oh No! #2 - What is your major malfunction, Agent? Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

LaTomate: I'm archiving this series since I'm no longer in Dundee to maintain the cache and it requires some work.

Furthermore, one of the caches is not in a suitable location anymore and another was in a location which will soon have some construction done.

Geocache Description:

The cache is part of a series, set up with help from gingerino and Xeanni! You need to solve this one to find #3 and #4.

This cache is not at the coordinates but is close by. Cache is a 3.5mm film canister. Please bring pen and paper since this cache contains hints necessary to solve #3! Also, be careful if you have children, this is near quite a busy road.

Description

For a longer description of the series, please read the entry for the first cache of the series (GC3F1GW: Oh No! #1 - The trapdoor.)

We continue our tour of the games industry with a brief passage past the old offices of what used to be the industry powerhouse in the city: Realtime Worlds. The building is currently unoccupied but is adjacent to a Travelodge hotel. Founded by Dave Jones, previously founder of DMA Design (creator of Lemmings and Grand Theft Auto back in the day), it was the largest independent games company in Scotland until its closure in September 2010, with over 200 employees.

Realtime World's fame stemmed from their first title, the critically acclaimed 2007 third person action shooter Crackdown, an XBox360 exclusive game (the cache title is from Crackdown). Crackdown was nominated for seven video game BAFTAs in 2007 (a record) and won two: Best Action Adventure game and Best Use of Audio.

Realtime Worlds also developed other projects: All Points Bulletin (PC) and Project: MyWorld (PC, unreleased). All Points Bulletin was an on-line multi-player urban "cops and robbers" game released in 2010 to a lukewarm reception. Since Realtime went into administration, the game was purchased by a different company and is currently available to play under the name APB: Reloaded.

We've marked other wee places of note around this area with waypoints. Behind the RTW building is Dundee Central Mosque (and a cache too - GC1QCX8). Across the road from the building is a small garden with a mysterious little monument (which seems to refer to the oil industry). Slightly further afield is artwork which used to mark the location of the West Port public toilets, consisting of a pyramid flanked with stone and steel artwork.

The coordinates are inside the office building. Needless to say the cache is not there, but nearby! To find out where, you'll need to really play lemmings!

Let's Go!

To solve this you'll need to go to the free online version of Lemmings (created by a fan). You can find it here.

This time, you'll need to play a bit, but don't worry nothing too difficult! The instructions on how to play can be found here.

A few things to remember though:
  • You must sometimes use the horizontal scrollbar to scroll the level to find the exit!
  • The only way out of a level is to save or kill all your lemmings! So if you want to quit a level, double-click the nuke button on the far-right. Once out, you'll have the option to return to the main menu :]
  • If you have blockers, the only way to get rid of them is to make them explode (using the exploder skill or nuking them)

Starting with the Fun levels:
On level 1, A = the number of diggers you're given.
On level 2, B = the number of pillars the lemmings walk over.
On level 3, C = the number of platforms in the air

Back to the menu, and go to the Tricky levels:
On Level 1, D = number of holes in your path + number of boulders blocking your path
On Level 2, E = the number of diggers you're given

To the Taxing levels now:
On Level 1: F = the number of builders and
G = the number of bashers

Finally, Mayhem!!:
On Level 1: H = the number of blockers and
I = the number of builders

And now for some math!
N56° 27.((I ÷ A) x D) (H - G) ((E - I) ÷ A)
W2° 58.(F - G) (I ÷ A) (C ÷ B)

From here you can see the ex-Realtime Worlds office building. This area is quite busy at night (especially Friday and Saturday) so be careful. Across the road from the hide are a few of Dundee's centres of night-life. Enter at your own peril :] If you're planning on heading to cache #3, a pleasant walk will take you down South Tay Street (see waypoint) where you'll walk past the offices of Waracle, another Dundee game studio!

In the cache you'll find a small card with the hint that'll help you find cache #3 in the series. Please leave it in the cache and Happy hunting!
