Geocache Description:

As you stroll along the Tay there are 2 points of interest on this stretch of the path towards the Discovery:

- check the viewpoint on the Quay with the plaque commemorating the 1938 sea planes distance record: On 6 October 1938 the Maia flying boat took off from the River Tay with the Mercury seaplane on its shoulders. After getting about six miles outside Dundee, between the city and Forfar, the planes separated and the Mercury headed towards Africa. It touched down on the River Orange, setting a seaplane distance record of 6,045 miles.

- the lovely Princess Alexandra fountain. I like this dainty fountain, it's early 20th century. Edwardian Baroque-style it used to be a drinking fountain. Made with 4 polished Peterhead granite Doric columns supporting a rib-domed and corniced light grey granite canopy.

Many fishermen like this spot. It's got a great view on the silvery Tay and right up to Perthshire. Did you know Dundee is one of the sunniest places in Britain?
