Geocache Description:

Kratigos (Gr= Κρατηγος) is the name of the area and beach, just a bit further of Mytilene airport.
The area with pine trees behind the stone fence was part of a big wooden 'villa' at the top of the hill, but now belongs to Mytilene municipality and can be public accessed..
Around 1960 to 1970, place had a free potable water marble faucet. People from the city were visiting the place for a day long excursion, on public holidays ( like the first of May or Greek Orthodox Pascha ). Many of our family photos are from those days, pictures of family members eating over a table cloth on the ground.
Aside the main gate the two iron 'cupids' have the peculiar name Vandalisms !
And no, it is not the value of the art of them. The name is arriving from the fact they were used as practising target from some German soldiers at WWII. If you check better you can see the holes of the bullets on the bodies, evidence of ignorance or stupidity !

The cache is a small glass Jar containing logbook and pencil, easily accessed
