Geocache Description:

This offset cache will bring you to the wonderful Adriatic resort town of Selce just south of Crikvenica in the Kvarner region of Croatia.

The coordinates will take you to the historic ruins of a well which was built by the Hungarian Maritime Governorship during the Habsburg rule of Emperor Francis II after the town spring was damaged by the sea. The well was opened during the summer of a particular year in the 18th century. Determine that year by either reading the date in Roman numerals on the original stone tablet mounted on the wall of the ruins in front of you or on the adjacent marble tablet (erected in 1971) which provides a Croatian translation of the original Latin text. Next, using that 18th century year, calculate the values of YY, XXX, QQQ and PPP as follows: YY = (Year – 1762) XXX = (Year – 1240) QQQ = (Year – 836) PPP = (Year – 1284) Plug-in the above values into the following coordinates: N45° 09.0YY´ E14° 43.XXX´ These coordinates will take you to the location of the cache which is situated in the woods above and behind the Uvala Slana Autokamp at the south end of the Selce riviera. To reach the cache, follow Selce Hiking Path #1 "Staza Valova" by climbing the long concrete stairway just to the left of the Uvala Slana restaurant. The stairway is marked with circular red-yellow blazers and a red trailhead sign (see photos below.) Once at the top of the stairway, this panoramic hiking trail continues along and above the coastline with beautiful views of the Vinodolski Canal below and the Island of Krk. The trail continues to Selce’s FKK beach and beyond to the new Novi Resort complex, however, before reaching the beach, you will need to take a small trail to the left which is located near the following coordinates: N45° 08.QQQ´ E14° 43.PPP´ After a short section up and to the left, follow the 2nd raised white stone pathway (marked with red blazers) NNW until you reach a clearing with a mysterious aerial geo-benchmark set upon a mound (see photo below.) The coordinates should take you to a CORNER of one of the nearby stone walls where the cache is hidden on top under some of the stones.
