The reclusive residents of the gated community known as European Hill are an eclectic group of geocachers. There are only 5 houses on European Hill (numbered from 1 to 5 starting at the bottom of the hill) and they are all painted a different colour. Geocachers of different nationalities live in each house and they each drive a different type of car, drink a different kind of beverage and have different pets. Because they are such an exclusive group they decided to hide a cache in the York Regional Forest but to publish only the general area where the cache is to be found (the cache is within 1 km of the published coordinates). Their friends, who know them very well, actually wanted to try and find the cache (DUH!!) and so persuaded them to provide some clues to help. They thus revealed that the actual coordinates are:
N 44° XY.ABC'
W 079° PQ.DEF'
Where:
A = The sum of the house numbers of the coffee drinker and where the German lives
B = The number of houses in between the one where there is an aquarium in the living room and the one where the water drinker lives
C = The sum of the house numbers of the yellow house, the house where the Brit lives and that of the Citroën driver
D = The sum of the house numbers where the Serb lives and where the Smart Car owner lives
E = The sum of the house numbers where there are cats, where there are dogs and where the Pole lives
F = The sum of the house numbers where the Fiat driver lives and that of the blue house
Once their rather small group of close friends had found the cache they discovered that it wasn't much fun any more so they reluctantly agreed to reveal a little bit more about their neighbourhood and their personal lives and preferences so that the rest of the world could have a go as well. However, being rather paranoid about privacy and identity theft via the internet and all that stuff, they were only prepared to publish the following information on the web:
The Brit lives in the red house |
The Serb keeps a kennel |
The Pole is a tea drinker |
The German drives an Audi |
The Norwegian lives at the bottom of the hill |
The green house is immediately before the white one as you go up the hill |
The Smart Car driver has an aviary |
The coffee drinker lives in the green house |
There always seems to be a Fiat parked outside the yellow house |
The person who lives halfway up the hill drinks milk |
The Volvo driver lives next door to the cat lover |
The equestrian lives next door to the Fiat owner |
The Citroën driver is a beer drinker |
The blue house is next door to the Norwegian's |
The water drinker lives next door to the Volvo driver |
Nevertheless, armed with these facts you should be able to deduce where the actual cache is to be found.
