Geocache Description:

Flat walk along an old drovers track, linking the Necessity Brae with the south of Perth. Tree roots, stiles and muddy in places.

Pleasant walk along a drovers link road, between fields, with views to the distant hills.

If you wish to continue along from here to the Broxden way, when you hit the main road (Necessity Brae) veer slightly leftas you cross over where you will find a small gate. Please watch youngsters and dogs as although this is a quiet road the cars do speed along.

A popular walk with the locals.

Silver birch is of the family Betula pendula.

It grows to a height of 14-30 m and is deciduous. Yong bark is reddish in colour, but when it matures it changtes to black marked with silver-white. It is graceful and slender in shape with weeping branches forming a pointed crown when young and forms a domed shape when mature.

The leaves grow alternately on slender hairless stalks and are triangular in shape with small teeth around the edges.

It is one of Britain's native trees and prefers light dry soils.

Male and female flowers appear in separate drooping catkins on same tree in April and May before the leaves appear, and they rely on the wind for pollination. The pollinated fruiting catkins stay on tree until winter then break up into scaled and winged windborne seeds.

Letterboxing.

In the cache box you will find a Rubber Stamp and an Ink Pad - these are the signature for this cache. Please take an imprint of the stamp for yourself if you wish to collect them in your own personal notebook. Then leave an imprint of your own personal stamp in the cache log book (if you have one), or simply sign as a traditional log book.

Stamp and Ink remains part of the cache but it might be an idea to carry your own Ink Pad in case the one provided should dry up.
