Geocache Description:

An unusual cache that will have you reaching for the skies. Cachers experiencing high muggle numbers are welcome to tackle this from the quiet side of the wall! Don't worry....it's my bit of garden!

This circular walk (TUFTY) around Bala is a route of a little under 4 km, which is designed to be user-friendly; hence the name TUFTY, ‘The User Friendly Trail for You’ . It is on flat ground which is mostly wheel-chair accessible. A half of it is on tarmac paths and pavements, whilst the other half is on a wide, grass-topped bank which has gateways wide enough for wheel-chairs and no stiles. Most of the caches are immediately next to the path, but wheel-chair users who are unable to manoeuvre without their wheel-chair will find access to some of the caches difficult. None-the-less, this is a good series for disabled people to work with a friend. The cache names have been designed so that they display all that you need to know on your gps screen (no mile-long names that leave you wondering exactly which number in the series is currently on your screen) and all the info that you need in the description is right at the start, not tucked 300-words further down the text! Geo dogs will love the freedom to run along most of the paths, although care is needed alongside the river as there is deep water and fast-flowing areas. The caches are rated individually, through the Handicaching system

, although as a series it would take a 2/2 rating overall. Whilst wheel-chair access is possible through the gates, access to caches 3 to 6 would be enhanced with the use of a RADAR key. The walk starts in the ‘Pay-and-Display’ public car park behind the cooperative supermarket, although it would be possible to park else-where and join the circular walk at any point. There is free parking at the end of Tegid Street, both in a small car-park and alongside the benches placed along the lake-head path near to TUFTY 7. The series includes a wide variety of caches placed in very varied locations, some will be well muggled, others will be very quiet. Their purpose is to get you to walk to parts of Bala that visitors rarely see, so the route doesn’t stay in the town for long. Rather, it makes for the riverside, running alongside the River Tryweryn to its confluence with the River Dee, then along to the lake where it follows the north-eastern lake shore for a while, before leading to the leisure centre and back into town. Caution will be necessary with children and dogs as there is deep water in many places along the walk. The main feature close to this cache, is the old workhouse, built in 1839 to house 80 inmates. More recently, it has been a militia barracks, a mineral water bottling plant and a pyjama factory, although now (2011) it is being converted into housing. As you open your gps-page for the next cache (TUFTY 2a) you will find directions to get there from this cache, and so-on throughout the circuit. After the final cache, at the leisure centre, simply follow the main road back to your car. CONGRATULATIONS ! FTF goes to Cwm DJ STF goes to Kochmaster TTF goes to Zeuss 55
