Geocache Description:

This is located in the Shepherd Lake section of Ringwood State Park.

PLEASE NOTE: There is a parking fee from Memorial Day to Labor Day. There is no charge if you walk or bike to the lake.

Way back in the "OLD" days (early 1960's), when the lake was privately owned, the owner had a small military surplus amphibious landing craft. He would drive it around the property and take it out in the lake. When the property was sold to the state, the landing craft was abandoned in the woods where it still sits over forty years later. It has been vandalized over the years and parts have been cut off for scrap metal, but there is still enough of it left for you to know what it is.
The recommended approach is to start from the parking lot and take the Ringwood-Ramapo trail where it enters the woods near the entrance gate, by the Smokey the Bear sign. The cache and craft are a short distance past the point where the trail leaves the old road. The cache is near the landing craft. You do NOT have to climb over or under the vehicle to find the cache.

This is an easy hike and should be a nice hunt for the kids to do. After you have found the cache check out the playground and picnic areas.
