Geocache Description:

Off the Appalachian Trail on a short walk from a shelter from Gooch Gap.

This is one of five caches you can find in one days drive and walk on the Appalachian Trail if you know the Forest Service roads. If you want you can take two days on the trail and collect all five . This part of the mountains is very pretty with water falls and you can see for miles in the winter when the leaves are off. We saw eleven wild turkeys today up close. The trail hike is not hard and while you are there check out the 2nd shelter out from Gooch Gap. This is a two story type with covered table and a nearby water hole.
As always watch for the U.S.Army Rangers and their Hummers on the roads.
The cache is a .50 cal. green ammo can. The contents as of 1/23/04 are: Matchbox snow resecue truck; Matchbox Tony's Pizza truck; Coleman camp soap; Coleman poncho; box of 24 color crayons; Hideaway key holder with magnet; Deck of Bicycle playing cards; Coleman backpacker salt&pepper holder; 2 Sons of Confederate Veterans coins; Pack of matches from Pump Room in Chicago; One Missouri State quarter; One Delaware State quarter; One Indiana State quarter; One Ohio State quarter; One 1776-1976 quarter; 2 Jack Daniels Old #7 pins; Acrylic frame with magnetic; Pack of loop & hook tape

Additional Hints (Encrypt)

You can park at N34 39.137 W084 03.305 just off the Forest Service road at a deer hunters camping spot and take the unmarked trail down to the AT and the cache. Keep straight across the AT trail where the two trails come together The cache is next to a good size tree that forks into two trees about 3 feet off the grond. A good place to park where you have an easy walk down to the A.T. on a easy trail is Justus Gap 34 39.10N 084 04.07W This will give you a easy walk on the A.T. beside a nice running creek.
