honeychile: This looks like it was a big success. I'm archiving the cache since the event is long over.

Geocache Description:

Geocaching Event
National Trails Day 2003, Saturday May 31

Come celebrate the grand opening of the Peaks View Park trails system, hike and/or bike the trails, hunt for some geocaches, have fun and enjoy the park.

Trail Map
Event will include breakfast @ 8:00am @ Clayton's near the event (N37° 24.628' W079° 12.749'). Log the Breakfast at the micro cache @ N37° 24.586' W079° 12.827', and remember to SIGN the log.

Please in your note of intent inform us how many will be here for breakfast so we can make appropriate reservations.

There will be demonstration sessions held starting at 10:00am at the park, just across the creek from the posted parking area coordinates (above).

There is a LONG multi-cache hidden by Triffid on the new trail system. Unfortunately because of recent rains, the trails are closed. There are plenty of caches to find and more on the way. Come back for Triffid's Treasure's, Tour de Peaksview once the trails dry out.

2-Way radios will be monitored on channel 2 (in case you get lost, or need help - with a cache, or emergency).

There are more than 9 miles of trails, best enjoyed on a mountain bike. For those who wish to ride, the trails are closed to bikes until they dry out. The Central Virginia Mountain Bike Association is holding a bike maintenance clininc and some other demo's nearby during NTD, and during this event.

Come out and enjoy the day. Keep in mind, there IS poison oak/ivy in this park, and you WILL see it all around in some areas of the trails and park. Be wary.

Post a note of your intentions to attend, and your opinion for breakfast so we can secure an appropriate location for reservations.

Also, stop by the Father's Day Memorial Cache during your stop in Lynchburg. That particular cache will be removed after Father's Day.
