Geocache Description:

Enjoy the pleasures of the Old Plank Road Trail

Note: The coordinates listed above take you to downtown Frankfort. There is no cache there. Read below for the information for this multi-cache.

A Trail of many uses

“Everyone sees the Old Plank Road Trail (OPRT) differently. Some see it as a place for exercise, a place to jog or take a walk. Birders see it as a nature refuge with fields where they can observe dozens of different birds in one day. Bicyclists and roller-bladers see the smooth surface, gentle grades and uninterrupted straight-aways.” (Excerpt from (visit link)

“A botanist might note the hundreds of prairie flowers and grasses that grow along the OPRT right-of-way while an outdoor-person would see traces of animals like mink, beaver, fox and deer. City planners, historians, railroad buffs, geographers and others could each see things of interest to their specialty”. (Excerpt from (visit link)

The purpose of this multistage cache is to combine various caches as waypoints along the Old Plank Road Trail into one and encourage you to travel the entire trail. Travel along the trail can be done by walking, bicycling, roller-blading, cross country skiing and more. Some of the waypoint/caches are mine and some belong to others, but all are accessible from the trail. Parking is accessible at most major north and south streets. The rating is a 3 on difficulty because it may take several attempts to make all of the finds.

You may start at the west end cache, (Fallenfaery's First Cache or Higinbotham Mansion - GCGG7V), the east end cache (OPRT East - GCB4F8) or my first cache Fox’s Lair (GC2D90). These waypoint/caches will direct you to others within the OBRT cache. Look at the inside back cover of the log book to find the adjoining east or westbound cache. It will be beneficial to do some homework and research all of the caches within one half of a mile of the OPRT and other trails connecting to it. The OPRT and connecting trails included in this cache are shown on the website pages (visit link) and (visit link)

To find linking caches you must visit one of the caches. You may have already visited one of the caches and that log will count, however you may have to visit it again to find the clue. He He.

Every effort was made to make sure that each cache is in an area that no protected land will be disturbed.

Even though the entire area is kept in a pristine condition we should remember our model “Cache In Trash Out” and leave only leave footprints.

I want to thank those that have given me permission to use their caches as waypoints. I cannot name then on this page but you will know who they are when you visit their cache.
