This is rated 2/3 because of the trees make it difficult for a good reading. The groomed trail is one which one could take a jogger stroller through but the cache is off the trail approx. 50-70 ft.. (C'mon, now, you wouldn't really want to know EXACTLY how far, would you?)Because its off the trail, therein lies the 3 score.
How does a forest grow after it's been harvested? This is the place to watch it all in action. You'll visit a "demonstration forest" featuring markers throughout the trail that indicate when each stand was planted as well as the plans for that area. Although these trees could grow to the height of their patriarchs, it seems fate (okay, imposed fate) has other plans for them. Perhaps this cache could also be called the "Cache of the Doomed Forest". Regardless, it is worth an outing. Most people hike the lower trails of this area but the other trails are also interesting and worth a walk. Birdwatchers enjoy the variety of birds to spy upon year-round, blackberry pickers will find their fill, and visitors will appreciate the great fall color. Once you reach the end of the trail, you end up back on the road. However, across the street is another trail that will wind you back to the parking lot. This trail will show you a virtual fountain of youth if you look in the right places. Water bubbles up from an underground spring. Cache is in a ammo box. Please replace all its puzzle pieces when done.
