About a one mile hike on a steep, but well established trail to Jones Bar on the South Yuba River.
A popular swim hole in the summer, this cache resides at an area of the South Yuba River that was heavily mined during the gold rush days and was also a river crossing prior to the SR49 crossing. Park at the trail head 39 17.512N 121 05.831W. Head West on the Independence Trail for about a tenth of a mile, then turn right (north) at the Jones Bar trail sign. I gave this a 3.5 rating because of the steepness and some erosion of the trail. Look for signs of two old miner's ditches and a road crossing the trail. The cache is in a 12" tupperware container wrapped in a black plastic bag, and is well hidden. Please keep it that way as this is a popular area, particularly on weekends. The cache contains the usual gizmos.
Now for the easy (sissy) way: Look on a road map for Jones Bar Road above Nevada City. This REQUIRES 4-wheel drive and isn't nearly as interesting as the trail.
