Charlotte Poker Run Multi-Cache

This cache has been archived.

Erwinia of B & E: I have decided to archive this cache now. Too many of the "cards" are missing. It was a great cache idea and I am glad that so many of you sought it out. It really was a collection of some of the highlights of the area. So long poker run.......

Geocache Description:

This cache highlights some of the unique and interesting areas around Charlotte. The above coordinates do NOT lead you to the cache. You will have to figure those coordinates out for yourself.

The idea for this cache came from a game we played at our "Poker Night" meeting/event. Throughout the Charlotte-Metro area, we have hidden 20 "cards". They are distributed randomly. There are Aces, Kings, Queens, Jacks, and Tens of each of the four suits (hearts, spades, clubs, diamonds). The cards are 3" x 4" pieces of oak, with the rank and suit of one card, and a three digit number "inscribed" into it. To find the cache, you will have to find a straight. That is, you will have to find one Ace, one King, one Queen, one Jack, and one Ten. You do not have to find a flush, any combination of suits will be fine. You will use the 3 digit numbers found on the "cards" to complete these coordinates:

N 35 10._ _ _

W 080 42._ _ _

To complete the North coordinates, you need to add the value of one Ace, one King, and one Queen. Subtract your answer from 353. The resulting answer will fill in the blanks for "N".

To complete the West Coordinates, you need to add the value of one Jack and one Ten. Subtract your answer from 819. The resulting answer will fill in the blanks for "W"

All you need now is the coordinates for the "cards". Here they are:

N 35 14.029'___________N 35 20.889'
W 080 46.401'__________W 080 41.205'

N 35 18.725'___________N 35 05.783'
W 080 45.040'__________W 080 56.484'

N 35 21.378'___________N 35 12.547'
W 080 54.540'__________W 080 50.964'

N 35 16.284'___________N 35 13.421'
W 080 50.604'__________W 080 52.317'

N 35 10.234'___________N 35 09.285'
W 080 45.031'__________W 080 50.121'

N 35 13.541'___________N 35 21.985'
W 080 57.367'__________W 080 43.072'

N 35 13.320'___________N 35 14.279'
W 080 41.157'__________W 080 51.152'

N 35 12.325'___________N 35 11.309'
W 080 48.573'__________W 080 50.614'

N 35 05.713'___________N 35 10.401'
W 080 46.767'__________W 080 50.979'

N 35 12.599'___________N 35 06.964'
W 080 41.186'__________W 080 43.283'

Some of these clues are hidden in very public places and the areas may be very busy at certain times. You may have to be stealthy in searching for them. They are all attached to some wooden surface; either a post, pole, tree, fence, or some other piece of wood. You should be able to drive right up to some of them, and the rest require only a short walk on easy terrain. They should all be fairly easy to find, but finding the required "straight" may involve quite a bit of driving. This is a cache you could work on over a period of time as you do other things around Charlotte.

You should be able to find most, but not all, of the clues day or night. Use your own judgement as to whether you should be there or not. The final cache is hidden in one of the county parks, so normal park hours will have to be observed. Daylight to dusk seems to be the normal operating procedure.

If you have trouble finding one of the "cards", let us know, and we'll do our best to go out and check it. Remember, though, that there are 19 more out there, so you can still find the cache. Good luck and have fun.
