Geocache Description:

This cache is located on the southern half of the Tongue Mountain Range north of Bolton on Lake George, NY.

DO NOT attempt this cache if you don’t like a long bushwhack off trail. Bring a map, compass, and backwoods skills.

(Did I say this is Eastern Timber Rattlesnake territory).

This is a regular 30 cal ammo can cache that is hidden a good distance from any trail at ~1100' elevation. It is not an easy cache and will take a good measure of effort and off-trail bushwhacking skill. There is a significant hike and elevation gain, although if you plan well it can be a pleasant, gradual climb. There really isn’t any scenic view as a reward, no great destination at the site, nor is there a good reason to find this cache, other than that it is a good excuse for abuse. The reward is a wonderful hike along the path of your design through a near-primitive forest, and I suppose to prove to yourself you can do it. The journey takes you through stands of mature hardwood, pine and hemlock, past rock outcrops and small streams cutting down the flanks of 5th Peak.

We use our own route past this point that we pioneered to reach French Point Mtn., a favorite spot to spend an afternoon taking in the magnificent views 1400 ft above Lake George, contemplating the world far below. Parking is near the Clay Meadow trailhead on Rt 9N at N43 37.763 W73 36.502. You will follow trails for about half the journey to a point of your choosing to begin bushwhacking, and search for our Tongue French Lower cache. Since you will have invested so much effort to reach the cache, you may want to continue your adventure to search for our Tongue French Upper cache, and intercept the Ridge Trail to reach French Point Mtn, or return over 5th Peak then back down to Clay Meadow.

A Map60Cx w/WAAS enabled was used to establish this cache. Poor signals here may put point +/-20' off.
